audio restoration samples

The following examples will illustrate typical results of pieces of music that have gone through our restoration process. The example switches back and forth between “before” and “after” restoration. The first couple of before/after switches will be indicated by a tone.

Note:

The samples provided below were taken from actual restorations done using our normal day to day process and equipment. No special – or additional processing was performed – other than that stated in the examples. For the process used, please see Our Process page. For the equipment and software used, please see Our Equipment page.

All samples have been recorded at a lower bit rate to allow for faster loading.

  1. 78 rpm Restoration This sound clip was restored from a 78 rpm record. This is a before and after Extensive NR clip of 78 rpm disc restoration. A great deal of the 78 rpm surface noise has been removed without substantially altering the recorded sound. Removing all of the hiss would have left a very dull sounding transfer.  Bridgette O’Flynn Where have You Been (MP3-377K)

2. 78 rpm Restoration This sound clip was restored from a 78 rpm record in relatively good condition. Amazing how much noise was still present. This is a before and after clip. A great deal of the 78 rpm surface noise has been removed without substantially altering the recorded sound. Thanks to Peter Walker for the disc.  Hungarian Rhapsody #2 (MP3-618K)

3. early 33 1/3 rpm Restoration This sound clip was restored from a very unusual 7 inch 33 1/3 rpm LP record that had eight songs. It sounded un-restorable when I first listened because of all the scratches and ticking sounds. I cleaned the record three times – but, that did not make any difference in noise reduction. After spending two hours with the software, I was able to get a respectable restoration. This is a before and after clip. A great deal of the surface noise has been removed without substantially altering the recorded sound. Thanks to Darlene H. for the disc.  Romberg-Will You Remember (MP3-561K)

4. early 33 1/3 rpm Restoration This is another clip from the record described above. This is a before and after clip. A great deal of the surface noise has been removed without substantially altering the recorded sound. Thanks to Darlene H. for the disc.  Romberg-Softly As In A Morning Sunrise (MP3-426K)
